About Abstract Residential Design+Build
At Abstract, we help discerning homeowners plan, design, and build exceptional custom homes, additions and ADUs, with integrated architectural design under one roof. Our clients are often relocating from out of state and bring high standards for design and execution. Many favor modern farmhouse, traditional, or mountain modern styles. What they want most is clarity, budget control, and a team that can deliver at a high level from first sketch to final key handoff.
Our Promise: Clarity, Control, And Craftsmanship
Custom building should be exciting, but it can get complex fast. Budgets drift. Decisions pile up. Permitting slows everything down. We remove the guesswork with a true design-build approach that aligns drawings, selections, costs, and schedule before construction begins. You get a detailed plan, honest numbers, and steady communication, so your project stays on track.
Here is what that means. You get a design that is tied to real pricing, not fantasy numbers. Selections get organized in advance, so you are not making critical choices at the last second. The schedule anticipates approvals, inspections, and lead times instead of hoping everything goes perfectly. And you get weekly updates with full visibility no matter where you are.

Our Founder
Our founder, Brad Schmidt, built his expertise the practical way by starting in framing, advancing to commercial superintendent roles on complex projects, then managing spec homes and real estate before leading window and door sales. Those experiences highlighted a gap between design intent and field reality. Abstract Residential was created to close that gap.
Today, our team brings 22 years of construction experience to every project. We combine that field knowledge with in-house architectural design to ensure details are constructible, costs are predictable, and the finished home reflects your vision.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Detailed
Details matter. Every successful project starts with thorough drawings, clearly defined selections, and specifications that do not leave room for interpretation. When you say “custom cabinets,” does that mean paint-grade plywood or book-matched walnut? It matters, and we define it up front. That is how budgets stay honest.
High-Level Execution
Execution matters. You can have perfect plans and still end up with a mediocre home if the craftsmanship is not there. We hold a high bar for our team and our trade partners. Scheduling matters. Quality control matters. Showing up when we say we will matters.
A Great Team
Collaboration matters. Designers, project managers, and field crews work as one team, with you informed at every step. Nobody is blaming anybody else. We are all accountable for the same outcome, and that is a finished home you are proud of.

A True Design-Build Team
You work with one team from start to finish. Our in-house architectural design is coordinated with interiors, engineering, and construction, so decisions happen faster and fit your budget and actually work in the field.
We keep projects moving with weekly owner meetings to review progress and make decisions. We schedule site walks at critical phases like electrical, plumbing, and cabinetry, so you can verify everything before we close it up. And we do milestone budget reviews to make sure the financials match the scope instead of hoping everything adds up at the end.
Who We Serve
Our clients are typically high-net-worth individuals, business owners, and professionals. They expect clear communication, thorough planning, and a finished home that reflects their lifestyle.
We do a lot of new custom homes on premium lots and view properties, along with large-scale renovations, additions, and ADUs for guests, multigenerational living, or rental income. Most of our work falls into modern farmhouse, traditional, and mountain modern styles.
If you are managing the project remotely, we are built for that too. You will get structured weekly updates with action items, centralized approvals through JobTread, and photo and video documentation at key milestones.
Brad is top notch. Great communicator, attention to details. His company even sponsored our Recreational Flag Football team. He’s active with the community and an inspiration. His calm demeanor and easy going, which will put you right at ease. He’s even pretty witty and great to talk too. I would highly recommend him for any and all your design and construction needs.

Brad with Abstract Residential Design + Build has been great to work with, he always communicates before the job starts and as it progresses. His jobs are organized and always ready when I show up. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking to build or remodel their home.

Great people! They care more about doing what’s best for people than just making money. I asked them to modify and finish up some plans I’d started with another draftsman a few years back. He spent time with me, gave me valuable feedback suggestions and then told me as much as he would love to help, it would be best for me to use the original draftsman and explained all of the reasons why. Class act. Appreciate the integrity.
